How construction training centres get more CSCS, SMSTS and IPAF bookings

      Short answer

Construction training centres get more bookings by marketing renewals as well as new tickets, selling to employers as well as individuals, and showing prices and dates clearly. SSSTS and IPAF certificates last five years, so every past delegate is a future booking. Reply fast, follow up, and track which ads bring bookings.

      Key points

      • Nobody works on most sites without the right card or ticket, so demand is steady all year.
      • SSSTS certificates and IPAF PAL cards last five years, so renewals are built-in repeat business.
      • Sell to employers booking teams, not just individuals booking one place.
      • CITB funding changed in January 2026, so explain clearly what employers will pay.
      • Show price, dates and location, and reply to enquiries within minutes.

Construction training leads are some of the most predictable in any trade. Most sites will not let you through the gate without the right card, supervisors need their safety tickets and plant operators need their cards. Every one of those runs out and has to be renewed.

Yet many training centres still rely on word of mouth and a course list that has not changed in years. Here is how to turn that steady demand into full courses.

      What people are actually booking

Your customers fall into three groups:

      • People new to construction who need a CSCS card. CSCS says that for most cards you need a recognised qualification and a pass in the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test, and that newcomers can get a provisional card with just the test.
      • Supervisors and managers who need SSSTS or SMSTS. The SSSTS is a two-day course for site supervisors and the certificate is valid for 5 years. SMSTS is the longer course for site managers.
      • Operatives on plant and access equipment who need CPCS, NPORS, IPAF or PASMA. An IPAF PAL card is valid for 5 years, and it has to be renewed before it expires or the operator re-sits the full course.

Each group searches differently, so give each its own page.

      Construction training leads from renewals

Renewals are the easiest bookings you will ever win, and most centres ignore them.

If an SSSTS certificate or a PAL card lasts five years, everyone you trained five years ago is due back. IPAF also says operators need to keep their log book up to date to sit a renewal test, with the minimum rising to 60 logged entries over 5 years from 1 January 2026. Many operators will not know that until it is too late.

      What to do:

      1. Keep a list of past delegates with their course date and expiry date.
      2. Email and text them three months before expiry, then again a month before.
      3. Make a page for each refresher course, such as "SSSTS refresher" and "IPAF renewal", because people search for those exact terms.
      4. Explain what happens if the card expires, so the cost of waiting is clear.

Sell to employers, not just individuals

One employer booking can fill a course. Contractors, house builders and plant hire firms book whole teams for site safety, supervisor and access training.

      Make it easy for them:

      • A page for employers with group rates, on-site training and how you handle booking and certificates.
      • Proof that you deliver, such as how many delegates you trained for local contractors.
      • Clear, honest information on funding. CITB changed how it funds short courses from 8 January 2026. NFRC reported that many short courses moved to CITB's regional Employer Networks, which fund around 50% of eligible costs. Employers are confused, so a simple explanation of what they will pay wins trust.

      Make every course page sell

When we look at construction training sites, the same problems come up:

      • No price, or a price hidden behind "call us".
      • No dates, so people cannot tell whether you can train them this month.
      • A list of course codes nobody outside the industry understands.
      • Phone numbers that are hard to tap on a phone.

Every course page needs the course name in the words people search, who it is for, the price, the next dates, where you train and one clear button to book or ask a question.

      Reply fast and follow up

Workers often need a card for a job starting next week. They will book with whoever answers first.

      • Get every enquiry to your phone on WhatsApp straight away.
      • Send an automatic confirmation by email or WhatsApp.
      • Call back within the hour during opening times.
      • Follow up the next day if they have not booked.

      Track bookings, not clicks

Track calls, form fills and WhatsApp taps from every ad and search. Then send bookings back to Google Ads and Meta so they learn which searches produce real delegates. For a training centre, cost per booked delegate is the number that matters.

If you already train plant operators for CPCS or NPORS, construction tickets are a natural next step. The employers are often the same, and so are the people.

      Questions and answers

How do construction training centres get more bookings?

Market renewals as well as new tickets, sell to employers booking teams as well as individuals, show prices and dates clearly, reply to enquiries quickly and track which ads lead to bookings.

How long does an SSSTS certificate last?

The CITB Site Safety Plus SSSTS certificate is valid for 5 years. It is renewed by passing the SSSTS refresher course before it expires, otherwise the full course has to be taken again.

How long is an IPAF PAL card valid?

An IPAF PAL card is valid for 5 years. Operators should renew it with an IPAF training centre before it expires and keep their log book up to date.

What do you need to get a CSCS card?

For most cards you need a recognised qualification and a pass in the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test. People new to the industry can get a provisional card with just the test.

Did CITB funding for short courses change?

Yes. From 8 January 2026 many short courses are no longer funded through CITB's standard Grants Scheme. NFRC reported that support moved to CITB's regional Employer Networks, which fund around 50% of eligible costs.
